Internationalise your Classroom
As the world keeps changing and classrooms become more diverse, you, as a future teacher, need to be able to adapt. This programme is designed for international and Dutch teacher training students who wish to specialise in international education.
If you are aiming for a career in international or bilingual education at primary or secondary level, around the world, or interested in internationalising your classroom at home, this minor is for you. Besides theoretical courses, you will do a short and intensive school-practice/internship at an international or bilingual Dutch school (primary or secondary education), for half a semester.

What do you need to enter this programme? And what can you expect when you apply? In this section you'll find all you need to know!
Under the effects of globalisation, education in Europe and beyond is constantly changing. Primary and secondary schools have to be prepared to educate their students for a world in which everything seems to be connected.
Rapid developments in technology and communication and instant access to information about ideas, goods and services from all over the globe have an influence on students’ and teachers’ ideas, values and knowledge. Consequently, educational learning systems and teaching methods need to change to adapt to these developments. At the same time, teachers have to teach classrooms with students from diverse backgrounds.
Given all this, you as student teacher need to be prepared and equipped with the skills and knowledge to be able to adapt to these changes. You need to educate your students to be responsive to the challenges and opportunities of this changing globalised society and economy we live in. You can help your students to be competent in diverse settings and to have respect for different cultures.
Our minor programme Internationalise your Classroom offers an innovative way to influence student teachers' intercultural and international development, and prepares you for teaching culturally diverse student populations.

Practical information
When you move to a different country to study, there are lots of things to arrange. For instance, where will you live, how much are the costs? Visit our practical information page to help you prepare your stay. It is also important to start arranging a living space as soon as possible. Our housing pages will help you on your way. A student living in the Netherlands needs about € 800 - 1000 a month to cover living expenses, such as housing, food and transportation. This includes insurances – health insurance is mandatory.
