Internationalise your Classroom

Under the effects of globalisation, education in Europe and beyond is constantly changing. Primary and secondary schools have to be prepared to educate their students for a world in which everything seems to be connected.

Rapid developments in technology and communication and instant access to information about ideas, goods and services from all over the globe have an influence on students’ and teachers’ ideas, values and knowledge. Consequently, educational learning systems and teaching methods need to change to adapt to these developments. At the same time, teachers have to teach classrooms with students from diverse backgrounds.

Given all this, you as student teacher need to be prepared and equipped with the skills and knowledge to be able to adapt to these changes. You need to educate your students to be responsive to the challenges and opportunities of this changing globalised society and economy we live in. You can help your students to be competent in diverse settings and to have respect for different cultures.

Our minor programme Internationalise your Classroom offers an innovative way to influence student teachers' intercultural and international development, and prepares you for teaching culturally diverse student populations.

This minor programme is designed for teacher training students (all subjects) preparing for a career in primary or secundary education.

English CEFR level B2.

Please note: When you apply for this minor, you have to include a letter of recommendation from one of your teachers, stating that your English proficiency is sufficient for an exchange programme. You may be asked to take a language assessment test before the start of the programme. If your English language skills are below the required level, you may not be able to enter the course, as you need to be able to actively participate in (parts of) the programme. In all cases, the programme manager makes the final decision.
