Organisations in Digital Transition
Research group Organisations in Digital Transformation studies, from an organisation perspective, which human and organisational factors impact the success of digital transformations of organisation, and how the interaction between human factors, organisational factors and technology can be optimised. The research group defines these transformations as successful when these contribute to individual wellbeing, organisational effectiveness, and societal progress.
The research group aims to generate a body of knowledge that allow practitioners to address issues regarding digital transformation and societal challenges. Within the context of digital transformation, the research group considers it her mission to contribute to creating value at:
- an individual level (empowerment, improvement of productivity and wellbeing, development of digital skills)
- through increased organisational effectiveness (i.e. better use of individual qualities by designing improved employee journeys)
- societal wellbeing (by preventing that employees and their skills become obsolete in the labour market)
Lines of research within the research group
This research line focuses on the re- and upskilling challenge in the face of digital transformation. The aim is to develop knowledge about the necessary skills with which people in digitalizing organizations (and society) can cope better with the dynamics and change that technology brings. These skills not only concerns digital/ICT skills, but also transformation skills.
Projects
This research line focuses on organizational change in complex digital transformation contexts. Digitalization affects organizations at all levels and components, and the complex interplay of factors requires a new view of organizational change (e.g. from episodic to continuous). What are success and failure factors for this new type of change processes?
Projects
Twin transformation investigates the potential synergy of digital and sustainability transformation. The focus is on using technologies to advance sustainability, while minding potential negative impact of technology. The twin transformation implies a fundamental change process. Our research focuses on how to navigate this transformation, rather than the technological solutions themselves.
Projects
Energy transition is a key focus area. Together with our team BRiDGE - Behavioral Research in Digital Green Energy, we focus on studying how people and communities interact with emerging energy technologies, policies, and markets. Using behavioral science, we aim to understand and influence individual and collective decision-making, promoting a sustainable, inclusive, and digitally connected future of energy.
Projects
- Sustainable and Social Local Energy Systems (LES)
- Smart Systems for Sustainable Energy Behaviour (SSSeb)

Education
The research group works closely together with various study programmes, including the Data Driven Business and Project Management masters of the Institute for People & Business. The researchers involve teachers and students in the research executed by the research group. They also develop specific student assignments and research workshops within educational programmes.
