Halving tuition fees first year students

For the 2018-2019 academic year, the Dutch government will halve the tuition fees for first-year students in higher education. This reduction is meant for students entering in the Dutch higher education for the first time, including students from EU countries. Students taking initial teacher education courses would be eligible for the reduced fee for two years.

The annual fees will amount to €1,030 in 2018/2019 instead of €2,060. In case of educational degree programmes, the reduction would apply for two years.

You may be eligible for the 50% reduced tuition fee if you are a national of:

  • an EU country
  • Norway
  • Switzerland
  • Iceland
  • Liechtenstein
  • Suriname

You may also be eligible if you are the family member of an EU citizen living in the Netherlands or if you have a residence permit that entitles you to student finance.
