Marlies van Steenbergen

Professor

Marlies van Steenbergen PhD has been a professor at the Research group Digital Ethics since 2017. Her line of research focuses on value-sensitive design of data-driven innovative services, which seeks for ways to increase the digital ethical competence of professionals.

Marlies studied Linguistics at the University of Groningen and Technical Informatics at Delft University of Technology. In 2011, she obtained her doctorate at the University of Utrecht on the effectiveness of architectural functions. In addition to being a professor, she is a consultant in enterprise architecture at Sogeti Netherlands. She received the 2018 NAF medal for her exceptional contribution to the IT architecture community in the Netherlands.

Marlies is a professor for the master's degree programme in Informatics, where she is jointly responsible for guaranteeing the research quality within the curriculum. Together with lecturers, she developed the Masterclass Ethics in the Digital World.
