Maaike Hajer
Maaike Hajer studied Applied Linguistics at Nijmegen University. She worked for the National Institute for curriculum Development SLO. After receiving her PhD at Tilburg University (1996) she was a post doc at Groningen University. From 1993 her main position is at the University of Applied Sciences Utrecht, where she was appointed as professor in 2002. She has strong connections to Sweden, were she, among others, has been a visiting professor at Malmö University since 2010.
"Subject teachers can provide pupils the key to a subject through it's language"
Maaike: "I observe how differently teachers in various countries are supported in realising inclusive education for multilingual pupils. Even autonomous professionals need clear guidelines and support to reflect and make their choices. Strong connections between practice, policy, teacher education and practice-oriented research are crucial. I hope to contribute to these connections in the upcoming years."
